Because of examples like this, many people believe that we need to do more to protect our workplaces. For
example, James Dewey thinks that all new hires should undergo psychological exams. He claims that “the
only way to prevent workplace violence… is to test everyone. No exceptions.” While not as extreme as
Dewey’s position, Candace Moore agrees that some measures need to be taken. “It is probably not
possible to have universal testing,” she claims, “but we need a better means of knowing the risks of hiring
new people.” Others think that other forms of protection make more sense. Janet Stalks, for example,
claims that we need higher security on the job: “The American workplace is unsafe. Anyone can walk into
virtually any corporate building in America with a gun. It’s unacceptable.” Obviously, experts agree that
there are numerous dangers in the American workplace and that we need to take action to lessen those
dangers.
